…Mum and Dad woke us up at 11.50pm to watch Big Ben
chiming in the new year.
I got terribly cold.
Anyway out with the old and in with the new.
Watched three films today:
Sherlock Holmes and the Baskerville Curse at 12.00pm.
Mary Poppins at 2.30pm.
The Love Bug at 5.15pm…
Ha! Sherlock Holmes on BBC1 both then and now. I’m not sure the version I saw 25 years ago can really be compared with the version I’ve just seen. Nice pastel shades, though.
As for “out with the old”, I began the new year as I had ended the last one: glued to the box.
This was going to be a big year for me. I would be starting secondary school in the autumn. I would learn to ride a bike. I would spend quite a few weeks feeling really quite ill. There was a new Bond film due out, about which I’d already decided I was going to be immensely excited. There would be another piano exam to face. There would most likely be a general election, which I’d already decided I was determined to stay up and watch.
But above all, as I note with outrage in the entry for Friday 12 August: “They have decided to screen Dr Who at the same time as Coronation Street. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE BBC?”
Welcome to 1987.
